Cyberpunk 2077 - In-Game Teaser Clip

by Silver, 23:38

DSOGaming reports on a new in-game teaser clip for Cyberpunk 2077.

CD Projekt RED has released a short but sweet in-game teaser clip for Cyberpunk 2077. This teaser clip showcases a panoramic view of Night City at night, with lots of neon lights. And, while it’s short, I’m certain that most Cyberpunk 2077 fans will find it cool.

CD Projekt RED has also revealed that the first, 25-minute episode of Night City Wire will air tomorrow at 6PM CEST. In this episode, the team will show a brand new trailer, present fresh gameplay footage and chat with the devs in detail about one of the game features.

Horizon's Gate - Review @ Nerdstash

by Hiddenx, 18:40

The Nerdstash has reviewed the tactical RPG Horizon's Gate:

村色无边

Horizon’s Gate is a turn-based, tactical RPG in a fantasy setting. Players take the role of the commodore of a fleet of sailing ships on a quest to avenge the death of their crew. In the course of chasing revenge players explore the world, fight various monstrous and humanoid enemies, and conduct trade between the ports scattered across the map.

[...]

Final Verdict: Horizon’s Gate is a fantastic game to disappear into. The combination of charming aesthetics and a wide variety of deeply rewarding mechanics make for a soothing experience in which a player can get joyfully lost.

Persona 4 Golden - GFX Review

by Hiddenx, 17:47

IGN checked out the quality of the Persona 4 Golden PC Port:

村色无边

A Golden opportunity not gone to waste.

If you were a fan of JRPGs 10 years ago, you were playing on consoles. There was simply no other choice. Living in the (currently somewhat dystopian) future year of 2020 as we do, it’s easy to lose sight of just how much has changed when it comes to this particular genre and the platforms it traditionally targeted – especially as a well put together port of Persona 4 Golden unexpectedly makes its way onto Steam today.

[...]

Conclusion

Overall, Persona 4 Golden’s Steam version is a fantastic way to play this game, with solid graphics options, arbitrary resolution and framerate support, relatively fast loading times, and good support for remappable keyboard controls. Steam features such as achievements and cloud saves are included, and even the minor online aspects of the “Golden” version were faithfully ported. Additionally, this release adds the ability to choose between English and Japanese voice acting, a very welcome addition in what is inherently a very Japanese game.

The nit-picks such as video asset quality, locked aspect ratio, and even the far-worse-than-it-could-be performance are all at least somewhat understandable from a development and prioritization perspective, and do little to detract from the quality of the port in most practical cases.
Thanks Zloth!

Wasteland 3 - How Co-Op Works [interview]

by Silver, 23:38

Game Informer asked inXile about how co-op will work in Wasteland 3.

What about crossplay? Can you play Wasteland 3 with other players on different systems?

Unfortunately, no. Wasteland 3 doesn’t support crossplay between platforms. However, players who buy the game through different stores on PC will be able to play together. For example, if you own the game through Steam and your friend buys a copy through GOG, you’ll still be able to play together as long as you both own the game on PC.

How will players manage their inventory in multiplayer?

“We've tried different ways of managing inventory in multiplayer, scrapped them, and re-implemented it a couple of different ways,” Campbell says. “We've gone from individual character-based inventories to player-based inventories. I think what we have now is really convenient for players. It's a shared inventory. As both players are looting and getting items, that stuff goes into the same inventory. It would be as if you're playing in single-player, but it's two people playing it with the same pool, which means you don't have the hassle of trading items. And, the first person who loots isn't stealing the loot for themselves and griefing the second player.”

Knights of the Chalice II - Kickstarter: Eight Days to go

by Hiddenx, 18:50

The Knights of the Chalice 2 Kickstarter fundraising campaign has now raised nearly £ 35000 and it will end in about a week. The next stretch goals are new character classes and new companions:

Knights of the Chalice 2

Knights of the Chalice 2 is a party-based epic computer role-playing game with turn-based combat and 2D hand-drawn graphics for Windows and Mac OS. KotC 2 is inspired by Baldur's Gate 2, Neverwinter Nights 2, Temple of Elemental Evil and Planescape: Torment.
Just like the first game, KotC 2 is based on the OGL 3.5, the ruleset at the root of Dungeons & Dragons 3.5.
The Kickstarter campaign will support the creation of at least three new KotC 2 adventure modules: The Dark Arena, Forces of Chaos and Heart of Evil. The campaign will also be used to improve the game's graphics, add new high-resolution sprites and implement many new and exciting features.
In KotC 2: Augury of Chaos, your Heroic Party confronts a group of Evil Fanatics allied with various Demons and Fiendish Dragons! Blast your enemies with more than 700 spells, bull-rush them into spike pits, trick them with your superior guile, or crush them with your enchanted greatsword! See them driven before you and hear the lamentations of their women, as your valiant party progresses all the way from level 1 to level 21!
Following the Kickstarter, the game is planned to be released on the developer's website, http://www.heroicfantasygames.com, and on Steam / GOG after a relatively short period of time dedicated to the improvement of the game.

KotC 2 Features:

  • Turn-based, party-based tactical combat similar to that found in the RPG Dark Sun Shattered Lands made by SSI and in Troika's Temple of Elemental Evil.
  • User-friendly interface. Launch a charge, full-attack or coup-de-grace with a single click - the computer will automatically look for the best option available. Out of combat, move the party with a single click or by keeping the mouse button pushed. Also see the KotC 1 How to Play webpage for more information.
  • A well-developed emergent Artificial Intelligence. Enemies act as a group and support each other. They can use special actions like Grapple, Trip, Disarm, Sunder, Feint, Bull Rush, Ready Versus Spell or Swallow Whole and other tactics like taking a Five-Foot step before casting Maximised Fireball. They might use a Wind spell to dissipate the player's Acid Fog or Incendiary Cloud.
  • Omnipresent help files and clear in-game feedback (a feature also found in Temple of Elemental Evil) on the results of each dice roll, saving throw, attack roll, modifiers and so on.
  • More than 700 Spells and Psionic Powers (see the list of Wizard spells). The game also features 22 Classes, 10 Races, 36 Subraces, 478 Feats, 41 Cleric Domains, 71 Weapon enchantments and 51 Armour and Shield enchantments. Click here for more information about the Classes, Feats and other topics.
  • With the right materials and sufficient gold and experience points, craft your own weapons and armour and apply enchantments like Vorpal, Life Stealing, Wounding, Swift, Dispelling or Flaming Burst (see the complete list).
  • Multiple-choice dialogue options offering real choices and real in-game consequences to the player. Use your party's unique skills and consider your own preferences and playing style in order to resolve situations in the most suitable manner.
  • Enjoy a variety of engrossing puzzles and riddles. Use your intuition and logical thinking to decrypt mysterious coded messages. The game's cryptography interface, inspired by Broken Sword Shadow of the Templars, makes decoding a captivating activity. Do not worry about the difficulty of puzzles and riddles though, as the game frequently provides Hints designed to help you resolve this type of challenge.
  • KotC 2 Augury of Chaos allows you to create your level-1 characters and take them all the way to level 21 or so. There is no limit on character level.
  • Use the powerful integrated toolset to create new modules and campaigns easily. Easily swap monster tokens and sprites or create new ones. Create new monsters, new dialogues and new maps easily. The best modules may also generate an income stream for you.
  • Enjoy fast Saved-Game loading and saving and various game options designed to accelerate gameplay. Enjoy various convenience features, such as the Saved-Game preview image display, Tab key press to highlight objects that may be interacted with, or the Inventory Screen highlighting of spell scrolls that may be learned by a character.

RPGWatch Feature - Corven: Path of Redemption Interview

by Myrthos, 16:05

Corwin reached out to the Corven: Path of Redemption folks to ask them some questions and as their new Kickstarter went live today, this provides you with an opportunity to learn a bit more about the game.

RPGWatch : Why were you keen to make a game in the style of the old Ultima series?

Florian: Because I absolutely love Ultima and we still to this day did not get a new game like it. Some came close, but in my opinion none of them managed to capture the soul of those games.

In my opinion, Ultima, especially my favorites V, VI, VII, SI and in parts VIII, were all about interesting storylines and NPCs in a beautiful, interactive world. While Ultima never had long dialogues rivalling books in length like for example Planescape Torment, it managed to tell fascinating stories through interesting NPCs. In many newer games NPCs seem like robotic story machines and even newest technology with fancy facial animations cannot make them feel alive. Those pixel people from the aforementioned Ultimas had way more soul. In part it's because Garriott and his team gave them background stories the player could find out if he or she wanted to. There were relationships, rivalries, drama, friendships, ... and most of the time it was told through just a few lines of text and it had nothing to do with the main quest-line. It made you feel like you are part of a living breathing world.

The interactive world with its many secrets to discover did the rest. Secrets which again, mostly had nothing to do with the main quest-line and so made them feel truly special.

RPGWatch : How did you manage to get Richard Garriott (Lord British) involved with the game development and how has he helped you?

Florian: Richard and I were in contact for years off and on because I was active in the Ultima community. When I asked him if he would let us use Lord British in Corven he agreed quickly after reading the story outline. It's important to him that the character is portrayed in a way that makes sense overall and so he was very interested in the part he plays in Corven. Richard even ended up coming up with story ideas and details for Corven which were really great. After a brainstorming session we integrated his ideas in the Corven script and I think it all turned out great.

Richard offered to work more on the story with me once the Kickstarter campaign is over.

Corven - New Kickstarter

by Myrthos, 16:01

A new kickstarter for the spiritual Ultima successor, Corven has started today, after the previous one was canceled. They are now asking for 25,000 dollar less, which results in a goal of $20,000 and they are already halfway there.

Corven is a story-driven, open world, single player RPG inspired by our  favorite old-school RPGs, especially Richard Garriott's  Ultima series.

We miss Ultima and its design philosophy and so we set out to create something very similar.

Corven will let you explore an interactive open world full of secrets and surprises. Maybe even more important than that, Corven will deliver an engaging story with many interesting NPCs.

Our goal is to make you want to know "what happens next?" in the main quest.  Or in side quests for example"why is the, married, mayor of  this town sneaking over to this other woman's house almost every night?"  :)

This is a shift from many modern RPG's in which character progression  and combat are very clearly the main focus. Don't get us wrong, we love  those games too, but we want to focus on what made games like Ultima V,  VI and VII so great.

We are also very proud to announce that none other than Richard "Lord  British" Garriott, creator of the Ultima series, likes Corven and even  helped with parts of the storyline. His alter ego, Lord British, will  appear in the game and make Corven feel even more like its great  inspiration, Ultima.

Don't worry, Corven will also feature a fun real-time combat system  which is entertaining, but won't take up most of your play time. You  will learn many exciting spells and some of them will even interact.  Like a fireball which does 100% critical damage on targets afflicted by  your freeze spell. You get the idea.

The Falconeer - New Story Trailer

by Myrthos, 15:36

A new story trailer for the game with aerial combat, The Falconeer, has been made available.

Go Airborne with New Story Trailer from The Falconeer – Witness New Aerial Combat and an Opulent Oceanic Open-World

Today, publisher Wired Productions share a new story trailer for airborne ocean-world fantasy RPG The Falconeer. This trailer reveals the Seachantress (voiced by Tegen Hitchens) as the player's main guide throughout the immersive world of the Ursee, sharing some of the world's secrets. Viewers can also catch glimpses of third-person dogfighting gameplay, equipped with devastating ranged weaponry, in-game faction settlements, and the oceanic open-world landscape that players will traverse.

Soaring to release on Xbox One and PC via Steam in 2020, players can expect additional content and updates about The Falconeer's development in the coming months, as independent one man developer Tomas Sala, and publisher Wired Productions work tirelessly to deliver this beautiful oceanic fantasy to the world.

This new trailer for The Falconeer shows short cuts of raw gameplay footage from the game's first chapter where players are matched against pirates sailing fast ships in the sea, as well as agile airships. In addition, the trailer provides a deeper look at the Maw, the unnatural canyon of water that spans the length of the game's world, as well as the three warmongering rival faction settlements, which are vying for the mysterious secrets hidden at the Ursee's unfathomable depths.

The first of these settlements is the Saladmount, a place devoted to harvesting wood-like material from the giant fungal seatrees, which is used as an ultra-light building material. Next is the Shard, home to one of the most important Noble houses in the game, House Borgia, which is a place of sharp, imposing rock features. The third is the Imperial Harbour, the largest city of the Ursee and the Royal seat atop Imperial Peak.

1971 Project Helios - Review

by Hiddenx, 16:50

Pushsquare has reviewed 1971 Project Helios:

Mini Review: 1971 Project Helios - A Tactical Title with an Interesting World

Don't get frostbite

A turn-based strategy game that takes a few pages out of XCOM’s book, 1971 Project Helios is a pretty solid excursion if you’re looking for a few hours of distraction. Presenting a post-apocalyptic world coated in ice and snow, you guide a collection of interesting characters through hordes of enemies to rescue a scientist who may be the key to mankind’s future.

[...]

While the gameplay is solid, we came away more impressed with the art direction and sound design than expected. The lightly stylised, cel-shaded look works for 1971, with the organic environments looking especially nice. The sheer variety of locations is impressive, too, including an oil rig, airbase, canyon, and nomadic village. Meanwhile, the exploration music is absolutely beautiful, though the combat soundtrack gets a bit repetitive.

Starflight: The Remaking of a Legend - Elements, Rocks and Trees

Twenty Two Elements

(Originally posted by Marvin 02/02/2019 HERE)

Elements

Sounds like the name of a rock band… Twenty-Two Elements. And yes, they are basically rocks.

This week, I’ve hunted for various rock and stone 3D models on the good old ‘net. After finding a bunch, I customized each one in an attempt to make them look like the 22 elements in the game that you can pick up using your terrain vehicle.

These elements are:

Aluminum, Antimony, Chromium, Cobalt, Copper, Endurium, Gold, Iron, Lead, Magnesium, Mercury, Molybdenum, Nickel, Platinum, Plutonium, Promethium, Rodnium, Silver, Tin, Titanium, Tungsten, and Zinc.

Of all these elements, two doesn’t exist in real life – Endurium and Rodnium. For all of the others, I looked around for reference photos and tried to base my creations somewhat in reality. Unfortunately, about 75% of the elements listed look like a silver rock. So I tried to make some variations in the silver color and shine.

Here is a video of a test scene with all 22 of the elements laid out. A few are easy to spot right away – such as gold, copper, and cobalt.

EVERSPACE 2 - Gameplay Interview & Alpha Roadmap

by Silver, 09:40

PC Gamer spoke to ROCKFISH games about open world space action RPG/Sim EVERSPACE 2, which is said to be more RPG than its predecessor.

During IGN’s Summer of Gaming presentation, Everspace 2 developer Michael Shade explained that the first Everspace was always intended to be an open-world space RPG. But the team's limited budget forced them to turn into a procedurally generated roguelike instead since crafting levels by hand was beyond what the team could realistically accomplish.

Now thanks to a two successful Kickstarter campaigns, Rockfish Games is able to make Everspace 2 the game it always wanted. Everspace 2 features a bigger galaxy to explore with handcrafted, persistent sectors of space to explore and get into some epic dog fights.

The Closed Alpha gives players access to approximately 10 hours of gameplay including a story beat and free exploration, culminating in the first star system’s boss fight. In addition to new Ship Devices and Ultimate Abilities, players will be able to explore the all-new pilot and companion perk system.

While pilot perks are level-based, companion perks can be unlocked through various resources players gather along their journey.

Through main storyline content, scripted side missions, and various jobs, players will be able to reach the Closed Alpha cap of level 10. New ships, NPCs, and equipment have been added for players to discover as they explore even more regions in space, planetary locations, and cave systems in the game’s first solar system.

There are lots of handcrafted locations to discover in the first solar system; some won’t even be on the players’ radar until they stumble over them.

Stellar Tactics - Disable, board, capture and sell enemy ships

by Silver, 04:45
A large update for Stellar Tactics announces that disabling, boarding, capturing and selling enemy ships is now available.

I'm releasing the boarding content patch today. Every ship in the game can be boarded and I'd like to hear your feedback on the new system. This is one of the last core systems that needed to be implemented. It will be important as I expand the current mission system adding more variety, branching missions, and of course for the game story where there will be a number of ships that need to be boarded for various reasons. If you find any issues, please post in the bug forums and I'll take a look. As with all updates, there are likely edge cases and bugs that will only show up when people start playing the new content. I'll keep an eye on the forums and patch out any issues.

As it is, boarding is a nice add-on for the game. Short scenarios that net good returns. You can choose the repair/salvage mechanic for better sale value when contacting Arkus, though it is entirely up to you if you want to take the extra time to do this. No matter what, you will at least need to identify all the broken systems on the ship. Repairing them will develop your repair skill which will be used in future content updates when I expand the mission system. Scrapping components will improve your salvaging skill. More on this below.

With the addition of boarding, sub-system targeting is now in the game. This adds a new tactical layer to space combat allowing you to disable enemy engines, weapons, and systems - giving you time to deal with other ships in multi-ship combat scenarios.

Some of you have expressed an interest in walking around on your own ships. I want to say that this is not off the table. I'll be looking into it and I have some ideas I think you will like.

Others have mentioned that they want to keep the ships. Again, not off the table. I'll be looking into ways to expand the boarding system so you can earn ships through Arkus over time.

So whats next?
  • I'll be wrapping up the new perk system, rewarding perks earlier and more often. The next patch will complete all perks for the game including crafting, salvaging, and repair.
  • I'll be adding the new special weapon attacks. These will be rewarded at various skill levels and include active skills that can be placed in the two empty combat bar slots. This will round out the ground combat system nicely.
  • The weapon and armor repair system.
  • Expanding the mission system. Now that all core requirements are in the game - I can start working on making missions more varied, adding missions with multiple objects, and more.

Urban Strife is an old-school TBS Survival RPG, where you lead a team of makeshift, slightly deranged militia in an effort to keep the small community of Urban Shelter alive, amidst a zombie pandemic.

With what’s left of human civilization divided into factions fighting over the scraps, you will need to broker alliances and fight factions wars, fortify and rebuild your community and forge a future against the ever-present threat of the zombie horde.

Sense - Aiming for August Release

by Silver, 10:38

Cyberpunk horror game Sense is aiming for an August release according to the latest Kickstarter update.

We still have a small number of assets to complete on the art end; some cutscene animations, props, and some remaining music/sfx, but we do not anticipate this taking any more than 2-3 weeks to finish up. Our plan is to continue testing until the first week in June while making daily updates to the testing build based on what we continue to find internally and the feedback we receive, and from there make a firm decision about our release date then based on the results.

This means that we, unfortunately, will likely push back the PC digital release until August. The good news is that if such, the PC release will simul-release along the console versions, as they were already planned to release in that time-frame. Do not worry, we will still need to have the game complete and sent to the various platforms for their QA and approvals by early July to make sure that our logistics all work out as planned. Our publisher, Top Hat, has several releases lined up for July so we also don't want to crowd their release schedule, nor make other developers delay their own games because of our own scheduling. In full transparency, the August release is looking very likely, but I want to assure every one of you that this is not a "typical kickstarter game" situation. The game is nearly ready (hence why QA backers have received it already), we just want to make sure that our first impression is an amazing one, not one we have to fix with patches over time with. We are still operating under our original development schedule internally. This also still falls within the original plan to have console versions launch before the end of summer as mentioned above, which would be under an August release schedule. PSVITA release should be completely unaffected by today's news. We are still on our original schedule regarding PSVITA, and this has been discussed with EastAsiaSoft. If for whatever reason, however, we are able to launch in June we will let everyone know sometime around the 6th!

Vaporum: Lockdown - Releasing Summer 2020

by Silver, 10:30

Vaporum: Lockdown will be releasing this summer of 2020.

Hey, fellow crawlers!

We are sorry to inform you that we have to delay the release of Vaporum: Lockdown. This is nothing too special with what's going on in the world, but still, we feel you deserve more than a dry announcement.

Although nobody in our team has been affected by the disease directly, working from home has had a significant impact on the project. It's been a big challenge organization-wise. During this finish-line phase, the remaining tasks tend to be small but many. Which requires more communication than actual work, and that's difficult, as we can't deal with things face to face. No matter, our 5-member team is pushing through the issues as best as we can; it simply takes more time.

To be specific: we're in the last phase of environmental work on levels, scripting / balancing the last few remaining puzzles, tweaking enemy animations & timings, and working on the game's boss fight (which we are very excited about!). Also, some of the nice things like intro & outro cinematics are coming together.

The release day is drawing near, slowly coming out of the mist, the more we work on the game. Our current estimate is that we will be able to announce a specific release date for the PC (Steam, GOG, etc.) roughly within a month, and that it will be released during the Summer of 2020. Consoles will follow shortly after, beginning with the Nintendo Switch (being tested along with the PC version), and then XB1 and PS4.

It's mostly because there are a lot of onboarding steps for each platform, and we can only do so much with such a small team. Originally, we wanted to avoid a staggered release like this, but at least we'll do our best to release on each platform in the shortest possible time. We're not happy with it, but in a team with only 2 programmers, it's virtually impossible to work on the base PC version and all the ports at once, and release the game everywhere on the same day. Such an approach would also cause a significant delay of the PC release, and we don't think that would be fair to our players either.

One of the good things is that the game will be localized in all the languages as in Vaporum - but from day one (of course still allowing you guys to write your own translations).

You can trust that we're doing our very best to make the game a worthy prequel to Vaporum, with all the new features working towards a much better player experience.

Thank you for your understanding! We just can't wait till you lay your hands on the game! :)

Stay strong & healthy!

Thanks Farflame!

Tainted Grail - In Early Access

by Silver, 03:11

Tainted Grail is now available in Early Access on Steam.

TAINTED GRAIL: EARLY ACCESS NOW AVAILABLE!

Today is the big day! Today we finally share with you the Early Access version of Tainted Grail, and we couldn't be more excited about it. We probably couldn't be more stressed about it, too :D

This was an extremely long journey for us… We've spent almost 2 years of our lives on this game, learning as we went. The project kept evolving, the team kept growing, and we've all learned so much from working on this title that it's almost unbelievable.

And when we think back on how it all started - we're really proud and honestly amazed that our company actually got to this point.

You see, the journey of Awaken Realms was much, much longer than our two years. The company was formed about six years ago in the basement of an old house located in a small village near Wroc?aw, Poland. At first, it was run by two guys (they say they were "extremely passionate about games and stories," but they are just geeks, like all of us! :D) with zero capital and no experience whatsoever. But they decided to start a miniature-painting studio... and we're pretty sure they never would've thought that, in time, their company will be able to break Kickstarter with its board games and start working on ambitious digital games!

A lot happened on this 6-year-long journey from painting miniatures, and most importantly, a lot of talented people joined the company and managed to create some great games… or even open up a board game pub in our city :D

And so, we at Awaken Realms Digital, are incredibly proud to share with you an early access version of Tainted Grail. The first video game Awaken Realms ever started working on - and the first one we're publicly launching!

You can imagine why this feels exciting and stressful at the same time. We've worked days and nights, we've put our hearts into this game, and we are incredibly proud of what we've been able to achieve.

We REALLY hope you're going to enjoy Tainted Grail!

But OK, we probably got a little carried away with this intro… Let's write a little bit more about what is waiting for you inside this Early Access!

TAINTED GRAIL: CONQUEST

As we announced before - our main focus during early access is going to be Conquest, our narrative-driven rogue-lite/RPG hybrid. An endless game mode, we're going to support with regular updates all the way until our proper launch.

Here's the introduction to Conquest's storyline!

Cyberpunk 2077 - Delayed to November 19th

by Silver, 22:27

Bluesnews reports that Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed until November 19th for game balance reasons.

CD PROJECT RED tweets that they are delaying the release of Cyberpunk 2077 from September 17th to November 19th (thanks MacAllen). They say the sci-fi RPG  is feature complete, but they plan to use the extra two months to iron out bugs and tweak game balance. Here's their message:

[...]

This week, journalists from all over the world are starting to independently play the game. We are eager (and quite stressed) to hear their opinions, as well as see your reactions when they publish their previews right after we air Night City Wire on the 25th of June. We hope this will satisfy some of your hunger for the game as we work to polish it for the November launch.
